A tenfold increase!

“America must develop new forms of energy
and new ways of using it.”

US-President Barack Obama

Biomass is the most important renewable energy source in the United States. With more than 14,000 MW installed capacity, the US is the largest producer of electricity from biomass worldwide. 10 percent of US electricity production is currently generated from renewable energy and 50% of that comes from biomass.

With the Obama administration pushing renewable energy usage and financial support from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the industry is expected to grow at an even faster pace in the upcoming years. By 2030, 20 percent of fuels and 25 percent of chemicals are predicted to use biomass as a resource. In addition, 40 percent of biomass-based electricity is expected to be generated from biogas. The US also plans to substitute 75 percent of its oil imports, mainly through biofuels. This results in great opportunities for ethanol and biodiesel producers.

German bioenergy companies provide advanced technologies and decades of experience in the areas of solid biomass, biogas and biofuels while supporting the German government in its ambitious 20-20-20 goal: a 20 percent increase in both energy efficiency and renewable energies by 2020.
