3rd German American Energy Conference

Global Energy Challenges – Transatlantic Business Opportunities

May 12-13, 2011

House of German Business, Berlin

To showcase the US-market potential and new technologies in renewable energies as well as energy and climate policies, the German American Chambers of Commerce (GACC) and the Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) - the German Energy Agency hosted the 3rd German American Energy Conference 2011 titled “Global Energy Challenges – Transatlantic Business Opportunities”.

On the first conference day, experts from both Germany and the USA gave a practical overview of the US energy market and discussed the integration of renewable energies in the energy system and the financing of renewable energy projects. In addition to key themes such as market entry strategies and support programs for German companies, the highlights of the second day also included detailed Forums on the solar, wind and bioenergy markets.

Altogether, around 300 political and economic experts from Germany and the USA took part in the two-day conference. Once again this year, a huge step was taken in the development of transatlantic cooperation.

Participants Comments

Ambassador of the United States in Germany Philip D. Murphy

"Energy and climate change are top global challenges. The 3rd annual German-American Energy Days event was a good opportunity to talk about energy conservation and efficiency. Germany is a leader in renewable energy but momentum in this sector in the US is growing and there is a lot of potential for our brightest scientists and most creative companies to work together."

Heidi VanGenderen, Director of National and Regional Outreach, American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE)

"There is a great deal to be learned between countries that are leading the charge on transforming our energy economy.  The German American Energy Conference was a terrific opportunity to learn about advances in renewable energy and energy efficiency in both the U.S. and in Germany.  Many good connections were made between those in business and government as we work toward a mutual goal of creating a prosperous, low-carbon 21st century energy economy."
